Inspection company authorization (UGK)
In Turkey, companies that inspect goods in international trade need authorization from the Ministry of Trade. The Ministry publishes the list of authorized companies, and each entry shows which customs tariff chapters the company may inspect.
What the chapters mean
The authorization is granted per chapter of the customs tariff. The chapters that matter most in ports are:
| Chapter | Goods |
|---|---|
| 10–12 | Cereals, milling products, oilseeds |
| 25–26 | Salt, stone, cement; ores and concentrates |
| 27 | Coal, petroleum and other mineral fuels |
| 31 | Fertilizers |
| 72–73 | Iron and steel, including scrap; articles of iron and steel |
| 89 | Ships and floating structures |
A company authorized for chapter 72 may inspect a scrap cargo; one authorized only for chapter 89 may not, even if it surveys ships every day.
What the list does not tell you
The list shows legal authorization, not what a company actually does. Certification bodies, food laboratories and textile testers appear on it alongside marine surveyors, because they hold some of the same chapters. Before appointing, check the company's services and its experience at that port. On Portiva, companies that confirm their listing add the services they offer and the ports they work in.
Checking a company
Every company page on Portiva shows its office, chapters and registration status from the Ministry list. The Ministry's own list on its website is the final reference; if a company says it is authorized but is not on the current list, ask for its authorization document.
Finding a surveyor
Choose the port on Portiva to see every authorized company there. To get quotes, send one request and we pass it to companies working in that port. Survey companies abroad looking for a local surveyor to attend on their behalf can use the attending surveyor request.
